Terre Alte

Created in 1981, Terre Alte is considered one of Italy’s most prestigious white wines. The balanced blend of Tocai Friulano, Pinot Bianco and Sauvignon grapes, estate-grown at Rosazzo in the historic Terre Alte vineyards, yields a superbly elegant wine with a profusion of intense fruit and flower aromas. A wine of outstanding structure, Terre Alte acquires a wonderfully complex bouquet of tertiary aromas with bottle ageing.

Wine fact
Twenty years of Terre Alte (1981-2001)
Variety: Tocai Friulano - Pinot Bianco - Sauvignon
Denomination: Colli Orientali del Friuli
Designated zone: Rosazzo bianco
Area of production: Rosazzo
Soil type: Marl and sandstone flysch of Eocene origin
Grape: 30% Tocai Friulano, 30% Pinot Bianco, 40% Sauvignon
Vine training system: Guyot
Pest control: Low environmental impact integrated pest management
Harvest period: Last ten days of September
Harvest method: Manual
Vinification: The bunches were carefully destemmed and left to macerate for a short period. Next, the fruit was soft crushed. The must obtained was then allowed to settle. The Pinot Bianco and Sauvignon fermented at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks, where they matured for about ten months. The Tocai Friulano fermented and aged in small casks of French oak.
Ageing: The Pinot Bianco and Sauvignon mature in stainless steel while the Tocai Friulano stays in small oak casks. After ageing for about ten months, the wines were blended. Bottling took place in June 2002. The bottled wine was aged in temperature-controlled binning cellars for a minimum of 12 months.
Sensory characteristics:
Appearance: vibrant straw yellow with golden yellow highlights;

Nose: powerful, complex, broad and pervasive, with sweet tropical fruit, citrus, yellow-fleshed fruit and generous, intense hints of flowers mingling with vanilla, hazelnut and a faint note of toasty oak;

Palate: sweet and mouth-filling on entry, supported by persistent well-gauged acidity; soft, well-structured, full-bodied, rich and weighty. Sweet, long and fruity on the back palate. Tropical fruit and spices lift the finish.

Serving suggestions: A particularly good match for fish; excellent with vegetable risottos, white meats and cheeses.
Serving temperature: 14 - 15 °C
